Frequently Asked Questions
A professional air duct cleaning service will complete the job more effectively and efficiently. Once our team has cleaned your air ducts, you can expect the following benefits:
- Improved indoor air quality
- Reduced air pollution and toxins
- Fewer allergies
- Greater and consistent airflow
- Lower energy costs
The technicians have a variety of tools in hand, and it doesn’t take them long to find the root cause. They use specialized techniques that dislodge bacteria, dirt and debris down to its core – which is often located deep inside your system’s interior. After thoroughly sanitizing everything following their work, they replace all necessary air filters while checking current performance levels for any damage, leaks, or faults.
The National Air Duct Cleaning Association (NADCA) recommends you have your air ducts cleaned every three to five years. If you have pets or have a respiratory condition, then we recommend more frequently. Regular air duct cleanings help remove the following from the air:
- Pollen
- Dust
- Pet dander
- Radon
- Carbon monoxide
- Cigarette smoke
- Mold spores
The process of cleaning your air ducts varies on several factors. Typically, you can expect the service to last between one to three hours. Larger homes and buildings or those with pets may take longer. The length of the service also depends on the last time you had an air duct cleaning.
More often than not, your air ducts need to be cleaned. However, there are times when your air ducts may need to be replaced. The most common cause of ductwork replacement is age. Ductwork over the age of 10 should be replaced. If your ductwork is older then you can expect degradation in the seams, seals, and connections. Other signs of needing a ductwork replacement include:
- Lack of airflow
- Uneven temperatures in your home
- Damage, dents, or holes in the ductwork
- Mold growth
- Noisy or loud while operating
- Improper installation
You can definitely clean with a vacuum or a clean cotton cloth, but cleaning the ducts requires getting thoroughly inside the ductwork. And getting inside your ductworks is not possible (or recommended) for the average homeowner. Using appropriate equipment is very important to ensure that the contaminants present in the ducts don’t enter the air inside your house.
There are a few signs that it’s time to have your air ducts cleaned. It may be time to call a professional if:
- There is substantial visible mold growth inside hard surface (e.g., sheet metal) ducts or on other components of your heating and cooling system
- Ducts are infested with vermin, e.g. (rodents or insects)
- Ducts are clogged with excessive amounts of dust and debris and/or particles are actually released into the home from your supply registers
- The color of your wall is a darker or lighter shade than normal, due to dust collection
